Google FriendConnect
What is Google FriendConnect..? should you care…? If you only knew what was coming down the Google Pipeline.. All I can say is fully embrace what is coming and position yourself in the know NOW! Very few people understand and have seen behind the curtain… You definitely want to be an early adopter.
What i am sharing in this article is just a tiny snippet of the the things i have learned very recently about the biggest shift in Social Media that is about to unfold whether you embrace it or not. Google has been quietly building a Social “Super Power” and I am going to reveal to you over the coming days and weeks how to take advantage and position yourself FIRST!!!
Google Wave is just entering a Soft Beta period… only a select few are able to use it but the roll out is happening…. This article is simply an introduction to whats coming and I will start with an introduction to Google Friend Connect or simply ‘GFC’.
GFC can be thought of as the Front line to the brand new Google Social Network.
What you have to understand as we dive into Google and it’s coming Social Power is Google has been developing the pieces to it’s enormous social network for years… and it is only now putting them together… assembling them for the final beta release of Google Wave which I will get into in another article.
Alright… Google Friend Connect can be seen as a seemingly innocent little social widget that you can add to your blogs and websites… on the surface it may seem like any other Social Badge that we have seen pop up over the past several years but I can promise you it is far far more… It’s the gateway to a significant Social Network that will absolutely dominate the internet and communication as we know it. Once you get a handle on this you will understand that Email is FINISHED!!
Let’s take a look at the basics… Just what can you do with this Google Friend Connect Widget..?
First off you can send a friend request to another user that has logged into a site you become a member of through Google FriendConnect…. (think about the targeting here…) when they friend you back they are automatically added to your Gmail contacts, Gtalk, GMail chat and their Google shared RSS items are instantly added to your shared items… Now none of this happens without your permission or your new google friends permission. Simple so far right..?
Now let’s dig a little deeper to see why this is so important…
GFC is real, and the contacts you make here are of the highest quality… they are not a bunch of newbies trying to sell you their business opportunity and sending you 50 group invites like in Facebook every day. It’s important to understand that you will not just make friends with GFC but Highly Targeted and Strategic contacts… after all these people were interested enough in you and what you do to Join your blog through GFC’s Join feature on your site. This means that they are Good, Targeted, Quality and like minded friends that will no doubt bring value to your web experience and you to theirs. To fully Grasp what I have just said is so so so HUGE!!
It’s not about making 500 friends as quickly as possible.. infact 1 friend through Google Friend Connect is worth 500 or even a 1,00 friends through Facebook or Digg or any other social platform… and when you see how this all integrates with the coming Google Wave your jaw is going to HIT the FLOOR! In-fact if you want to get an idea of just how amazingly cool and powerful Google Wave is going to be watch the Google Wave Video… It’s long but if you want to understand WHY i feel so strongly it is imperative you set aside some time to get through it.
Here is one more tidbit of Powerful information… Your google reader, which is Google’s RSS reader will also be integrated into this whole Google Friend Connect scene. The reason that is so important is that Google uses the number of RSS subscribers you have as an indication of your blog’s quality. This will ultimately affect Page Rank and Authority Status… Also remember that google has purchased Feedburner so between the two it has a very acccurate count of how many people subscribe to your RSS.
Here is what happens… when your subscribers share your blog post it gets added to their Google Reader shared items… BUT here is the important part…. It doesn’t just get added… the FULL text is added, your headline is used to link back to your blog… It uses the words you supply.. ie. Keywords…. and it supplies a Hard coded link that is fully followed where Google also passes the Page Rank and Link Juice to your site. This is Google’s version of Bookmarking and is going to be SOOOOO powerful. I hope you are getting the magnitude of what I am trying to share… Please whatever you do set aside some time to watch the Google Wave Video.. It Blew me Away!
I want you to understand that this short article is just a tiny glimpse into the Power coming down the pipeline…. The Google Monster is about to be released.. Here are a few steps you need to take like Yesterday!!
1. Get a Gmail account if you don’t already have one.. And Yes it is important to use your real name!! This is a real network and is not the time to be using a fancy moniker for a handle. Remember that all of this is going to follow you through Google FriendConnect, Google Wave, Google Reader etc…
2. Set up your Google Profile NOW before someone else gets your name.
3. Join my site through your new Google Friend Connect Account
4. Come back to my Blog often as I will be sharing with you all the insider information that I am privy to.
Thanks for reading.. I’ll see ya at the Top,

Hello
I have tried to get the html code for friendconnect and I get script error on html page where did you get the code.
You have to first set up a Google Friend Connect Account. I highly recommend setting up a Gmail account first using your name or as close to it as you can… Then go set up a google friend connect account by going here.. http://www.google.com/friendconnect/ once you do that you will get the html from inside your account. Then you can place the widget on your blog or site anywhere you would like… Hope this helps…
Thanks for your kind words Ed… as with any social platform you are very correct to say it is important to protect your time… Cheers..

I followed your instuctions here, what will the widget look like when i place it in my blog? I am so new to this. Thanks
Hey Russell welcome… the GFC widget will look just like the one on this page.. up and to the right on my sidebar right under the survey. You can customize it a little inside the Google Friend Connect website, colors and such.., but essentially it will look just like mine..
All you need to do is paste the html code you got where you want it to show on your website.. Once you have done that It will look just like mine.. If you are using wordpress i recommend putting it in your sidebar.
